talent night & SNL

Talent Night

The number #1 team bonding activity far and away.

Teams can start to prepare well ahead of camp, ready for a show!  Others just shoot from the hip.  Either way, each team must create a performance to music and compete with every team at camp.  Although the competition is tough, the attitude of “we are all in this together,” always shines through.

We encourage you to come well prepared.  There is limited time during camp to work on Talent Night preparations, so we encourage you to plan ahead!

Judging Criteria:

  1. 3-4 minute time limit.  (Teams will be docked one point for each 15 seconds they are over/under the time requirement)
  2. Creativity/Originality (please remember we have been seeing many of these for years…Barbie Girl, Hula Dancers, Beach Boy Surf Party, Boy Bands, Country Line Dancing, etc.  Encourage your teams to be original and make the effort to prepare ahead)
  3. Total Team Participation
  4. Effort & Work Involved (Preparation, Costumes, Difficulty)
  5. Entertaining

Talent Night Schedule:

Yakima Camp - July 23 @ 6:30pm

Kelso Camp - July 30 @ 6:30pm

Seaside Camp - August 5 @ 6:30pm

Sisters Camp - August 14 @ 6:30pm

Parents, friends and family are all welcome to attend as well.  If you need music, costumes or props, please bring them with you.

SNL

SNL (Song And Lyric) competition uses music as an activity to build a tam bonding experience, by facing adversity that demands teamwork in order to create a satisfying performance.

Teams are encouraged to select an "instrumental song" of choice.  The instrumental song must be on SPOTIFY.

The lyrics of the song must be composed of messages shared during GETC.  Teams will choreograph dance moves or other expressive activity while actually singing the song with the background music.

Preparation:

1. Team selects any instrumental version of a song - must be available on Spotify!

When choosing the song, consider the following:

- Energy and Vibe of the song

- Ease of singing the song (teams that sing clearly and easy to understand the lyrics are best!)

- Familiarity/Popularity

2. Write and compose the lyrics to the song. You will be asked to write the lyrics on a giant sheet of paper provided at GETC.  Try to incorporate the messages you have heard in camp that stand out to the team…use messages that you want to see come to life in you and your team.

3. Decide how you will present the song to the camp - dance choreography, play acting, etc.

Judging Criteria:

  1. Clean: in-sync, co-ordinated, together, memorized vs read
  2. Content: includes GETC messages
  3. Entertaining
  4. Team Participation
  5. Effort

SNL Schedule:

Yakima Camp - July 22 @ 9:00am

Kelso Camp - July 29 @ 9:00am

Seaside Camp - August 4 @ 9:00am

Sisters Camp - August 13 @ 9:00am

Teams that dive into these non-volleyball activities usually form a bond that goes well beyond the team season and often are life-time memories.
